about

Stranglehold draws inspiration from Jack London's 1903 book "The People of the Abyss", the writers' firsthand account of the desperation and hopelessness of living in London's East End at the dawn of the 20th century, to shape a story about the struggle for survival and its effect on those that would do anything to rise out of the cesspit of poverty and despair.

lyrics

PART I
I'm on my own, as I've always been
trudging along as the mire recedes
covered in filth, making way through the slough
the struggle goes on, I will never go down

go down, no no lord I won't drown

holding on to my last resort
my lucky charm, my pendant worn

Oh earth accept my humble offer
Swift winds, help carry me across

PART II
awake at last from the feverish dream
lying drenched in my sweat, I am shivering still
trembling hands peeling cloth from skin
scalding water on flesh, to rid myself of the guilt

the guilt, to rid myself of the guilt

I sent him down instead of me
my friend in need, I took no heed

Oh god, I'm haunted by his presence
No prayer will save me from the dreams

PART III
a wise man once said and I stand by his words
that a man always gets less than he's aiming for
So I aimed for the sky I shot for the stars
And I stepped on their corpses to quench my thirst for more

for more, to drown myself in the rot

as for all the other men
the less than little they get -cannot save them

Come on, hold tight until it's over
no sense, no sense in staying sober

no sense, no sense in staying sober
Go on, hold tight until it's over

"Man always gets
less than he demands from life;
and so little do they demand,
that the less than little they get
cannot save them."
